Supergeil Dutch Courage Cocktail recipe

Ryan Sparks of Supergeil shares his Dutch Courage cocktail recipe for SEEN readers to try at home.

“This drink is inspired by the last bar I ran in Baltimore, [which is] called Dutch Courage” Sparks says of Supergeil’s take on an Old Fashioned. “It isn’t currently on our menu, but we can always make it.

Dutch Courage Recipe

  • 2 oz. Barrel Reserve Old Cockney Gin
  • 0.5 oz. toasted cinnamon syrup *
  • 2 drops rosewater
  • 2 dashes vanilla+cardamom tincture*
  • stir all ingredients together, strain over large ice cube
  • garnish with lemon peel

 

*Toasted Cinnamon Syrup

  • dry toast 4 cinnamon sticks until fragrant
  • combine 32oz turbinado sugar with 16 oz. water
  • simmer with cinnamon sticks on low heat for 30 minutes
  • strain/bottle/keeps for 30 days

*Vanilla+Cardamom Tincture

  • dry toast 5 cracked cardamom pods
  • half and scrape 2 vanilla beans
  • soak spices in 16 oz. vodka for 24 hours
  • strain off solids/add 4 oz. 1:1 simple syrup
